who are we?

decentralized pictures foundation (“the foundation” of “DCP”) - we are a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization to promote the arts. we aim to create an ecosystem that will discover, curate, promote, and support artists worldwide. we are a diverse network of industry leaders, studios, production companies, management, and talent agencies.

what is T4L3NT net?

a blockchain to aid in our goals. we have forked the tezos blockchain for a few reasons. proven on chain governance model, proof of stake consensus, and it has been a pioneer and role model for other projects with similar governance initiatives. for information about the tezos project, read on here. for info on how we launched the betanet see video below.

why our own chain?

gas costs on layer 1 chains have been an ongoing issue. an arts & culture focused blockchain sounds romantic, we are artists after all. we aim to create an ecosystem of creative projects and applications to support the art and artists. we need rails for the first app on T4L3NT, a financing and support app that has an incentivized behavior model to aggregate data and determine which artists are most deserving of support from the DCP fund and partner network. this goal would be greatly hampered by high gas costs. DCP will pay the gas within our apps for our users. it would have been too unpredictable to pay these costs for our users on a chain we are not actively participating in.

betanet

launched for testing on 12/15/2021, big thanks to all the community support with running nodes and helping to test, secure and decentralized the network.

mainnet

launched on 4/20/22. the first apps built on T4L3NT are being tested and the DCP app for film financing was launched on 5/20/22. we encourage other arts and culture related applications to build on T4L3NT as well. please reach out for support and guidance by emailing T4L3NT@decentralized.pictures

producers

based on tezos, there is a minimum number of credits/tokens required to be a “baker” or as we’re calling it a “producer”. we are calling these “reels”. in order to become a producer you will need to have at least 1 REEL. (1000 FILM). producers will also need to download and install the T4L3NT node software, sync up to the network and register their node addresses as a delegate. Instruction for setting up nodes can be found here or by clicking the button below.

become a producer / validator

set up a node. create a key pair. become a delegate on the network. validate/produce blocks and process transactions while earning FILMCredits for helping the network. for source code and node setup instructions, head over to our github repo for further details. note - you need at least 1 REEL (1000 FILM) to become a producer.

“proof of stake” mining

the T4L3NT net has a proof-of-stake consensus model. all validator nodes (producers) are rewarded for validating transactions and producing blocks.

the T4L3NT net is not programmed with a mining reward schedule that diminishes over time (like bitcoin). however, through election proposals built into the protocol, the inflation rate may grow or diminish over time if producers vote for protocol updates that include inflation rate changes. given that control of such updates are decided by node operators (producers), these protocol upgrades need to pass the election process to happen. there is currently an unlimited supply of digital assets to be generated as block rewards through mining.

the role of FILMCredits in the T4L3NT net

FILMCredits will be used to pay gas fees within the T4L3NT net. gas fees will be for transactions, publishing contracts, and interactions with the T4L3NT net blockchain. FIMCredits may be used as gas within other applications, such as dapps built on the T4L3NT net.

future development of the T4L3NT net

the T4L3NT net is an open blockchain network that is supported by a network of validator nodes operated by users of the network. we expect that users will develop their own applications and uses for the T4L3NT net that complement and/or operate independently of DCP apps. because the user community is free to innovate and build new applications and uses for the T4L3NT net, the foundation cannot anticipate the full range of possible use cases for the T4L3NT net. we encourage users to build arts & culture focused applications and we expect that users will be interested in developing apps that complement DCP apps and/or cater to film industry participants and film enthusiasts, but the opportunity for innovation on the T4L3NT net is certainly not controlled by any individuals or entities.

it is important that the T4L3NT net be supported by a truly distributed network of validator nodes and host a wide range of decentralized applications. these applications can be developed by third parties and may attract new users that are separate and distinct from the foundation’s application user base. the foundation plans to continue to develop and operate apps but control of the T4L3NT net is determined by validator nodes.
